Product Description Today's teachers have heard the buzz about multicultural instruction but still have practical questions about how to implement it in their increasingly diverse classrooms. This text provides "how-to" answers to these questions and presents important and relevant theoretical research explaining the "why" behind this educational reform movement. Containing concrete examples and detailed scenarios, this book encourages teachers to build bridges between the school culture and students' community culture, and to reflect on their own teaching techniques. This text is part of the "Psychology in the Classroom" series which seeks to encourage teachers to base their daily classroom practices on sound principles derived from the latest educational psychology research. Each text in the series contains a wide range of user-friendly features, such as real-life case illustrations, sample classroom activities, self-study questions and suggested readings.

Culturally diverse classrooms November 5, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was required for a graduate class on diversity in the classroom. It offers insight on the way students of different racial and ethnic background learn best. It provides ideal examples of how to change the classroom to make a specific group more comfortable. All in all, strategies offered can relate to any person of any color. They spell out respect, good teaching, variety of techniques, etc. I found it somewhat elementary and a repeat of knowledge I had already gained through other classes. This book is for beginning teachers or those who have not been exposed to a variety of races in the classroom. Still considered a good book, but not a must for a teacher's library.
culturally responsive? August 2, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
WOW, is my best description for this book. It provides tons of information on how to teach according to the diverse cultures that exist within my classroom. Many activities that I would not have thought to do before. My students behaviours and learning styles make much more sense now.
