Product Description
Every parents dreamthe secrets of acclaimed kindergarten teachers revealed!

Countless parents have imagined how much easier life would be if they could get their children to listen and cooperate at home just as they do with their favorite teachers.

This book offers creative tips and activities from award-winning teachers nationwide, detailing the simple techniques they use, why they work, and how to adapt them for use at home. For example, good teachers would never demand their students attention by instructing them to Listen!but they might say, Put on your elephant ears. And instead of telling them to Walk quietly, they might remind them to Wear your marshmallow feet.

The book also helps parents of 3- to 6-year-olds support their childs development the way the best early childhood teachers doby fostering independence and self-reliance. Parents learn to:

Understand how children grow and develop
Realize the importance of rules and controlling Frustration
Organize their household and create routines
Handle transitions smoothly
Give children tools to resolve problems themselves

5 out of 5 stars Insightful and practical   September 23, 2008

"What Kindergarten Teachers Know" is a thoughtful and practical book full of useful principles and tools that parents can use to empower and prepare young children. Unless you are a teacher of young children, this book will educate even the best of parents on important points they don't yet know. I especially love the sections on organizing your home, and helping young children learn to manage their emotions and solve problems.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this book!   September 5, 2008

This book is full of so many wonderful ideas! It helped me to better understand my child's behavior and to find more creative and positive ways to respond to him. The book was organzied very well, which made it easy to read. The pictures were great! For instance, it was very helpful to not only have a description of how to create the "Schedule Board Game", but also a picture to give you more help with creating it. I am using some of the techniques with great success. Lisa and Joan, thank you for writing this book!

5 out of 5 stars Parents of our 3-year-old granddaughter loved this book!   July 4, 2008

How many times do we expect too much from our children?
Because our granddaughter is very bright (of course!) at age 3, we sometimes expect too much of her. Her parents loved this book -- her mommy has printed out the morning and bedtime routines. Our granddaughter now knows what to expect at those times. I am going to purchase the book for us -- Grammie & Papa.

5 out of 5 stars A must-read!   June 14, 2008

This book is a must-read for anyone who uses an "attachment parenting" approach to raising children. Holewa and Rice beautifully outline child-centered methods of creating a loving, nurturing home environment. They focus on understanding rather than controlling behavior. They give significant attention to the idea of defining your parenting style and letting day-to-day specifics flow from that. Once I embraced this idea, the daily conflicts became much easier to handle. This book is a marvelous, readable, engaging tool for any parent!

I am a Christian preschool teacher. I am always looking for new and exciting ways to teach. As soon as I received this book, I started to read it. I have so many sticky notes in it already of great ideas I will try. Change is good! Thanks a lot for giving me the opportunity to purchase this marveous source of information.
