Child Development

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars very interdisciplinary approach   March 2, 2008
2 out of 4 found this review helpful

For child psychologists, teachers and, indeed, anyone professionally involved in dealing with children, the text offers understandings about child development. The approach is interdisciplinary, and covers toddlers to teenagers.

Physical development is discussed in several places. Starting with the pregnant woman and then with the newborn infant. But also later, concerning proper nutrition, and what can happen to the child when this is lacking. There is a global view of how adequately this is happening. While absolute numbers are [too] high, at least the long term trend is downwards.

The cognitive development of children is another major topic. How children develop awareness of their surroundings, and self awareness [metacognition]. Along with various models of how best to teach them. The reader is made aware that much remains unresolved in this subject.
