Product Description "The most practical, down to earth, thoughtful, and sensitive book written on women's childhood sexual abuse."Samuel C. Klagsbrun, MD
From the psychotherapist who offered groundbreaking work on self-mutilation (Cutting) comes a landmark examination of the psychology of sexual abuse. Stolen Tomorrows encourages the 20 percent of women who have been abused to think about, talk about, and seek help for what has been their secret shame. In addition to giving therapists and other helpers an empathic insight, Stolen Tomorrows will enable the survivor to recognize herself in both her personal history and her current struggle to overcome the legacy of abuse.

well-written book September 21, 2008 I have read many books on the subject of sexual abuse and found that I really liked the style in which this book was written. I felt the author had a good understanding of the subject manner and for being of the male gender explained the subject well. I liked the case histories that supported the subject matter. I would highly recommend the book to others.
Missing female perpetrators September 18, 2008 of CSA. Female-female CSA exists & is equally devastating. Mother-daughter abuse is it any less than father-daughter abuse? It was a disservice that stories of women who encountered female sexual abuse were not included. With very few exceptions the problems & patterns that develop are the same. Those problems and patterns were covered in excellent fashion & does make the book a page turner. That's what makes the omission of female perpetrators so glaring.

Not very helpful in a therapeutic or self-help way but it does let you know that you aren't alone. Ok read just not what I was looking for.
relevant easy to read February 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this book was easy to get into and interesting to follow the individuals stories within it's pages. i must admit i was a bit sceptical at first - a book on sexual abuse for women written by a MAN!! but i was pleasantly (if that's the right word?) suprised. easy to read and recommended as a good introduction on the subject.
Promising Tomorrows July 24, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Stolen Tomorrows was written in a most masterfully fluent way by Steven Levenkron. It is immediately gripping without sensationalizing or dehumanizing the victims of such destructive sexual abuse. It offered me a very clear understanding of each particular kind of sexual abuse and how all of these varying factors directly correlate to the future personalities and self-destructive behaviors exhibited by each victim. The detailed breakdown of the clear effects that sexual abuse has on women is undeniable and should cause us all, victim of sexual abuse or not, to be aware of its extensive prevalence. Ultimately, however, this is a book that offers hope. By allowing us to bear witness to each woman's pain and journey of recovery, we becom keenly aware that real help is available and recovery is possible.
