Product Description From Previous Editions: "A commendable volume in which the author condenses information, normally in several locations, into one reading . . . an excellent text for graduate courses on psychological assessment. It . . . familiarizes the student with the entire enterprise of clinical assessment and provides enough of a how-to guide for the student to carry out an assessment practicum." --Contemporary Psychology "For both practitioners and students of psychological assessment, the expanded and updated Handbook provides guidance to the selection, administration, evaluation, and interpretation of the most commonly used psychological tests." --Reference and Research Book News The updated and expanded fourth edition of the highly acclaimed classic text on psychological assessment The Handbook of Psychological Assessment, Fourth Edition presents a step-by-step guide on how to conduct a comprehensive psychological evaluation. It provides a complete review of the most commonly used assessment instruments and the most efficient methods for selecting and administering tests, evaluating data, and integrating results into a coherent, problem-solving report. Updated reviews and interpretive guidelines are included for the most frequently used assessment techniques, including structured and unstructured interviews, Wechlser intelligence scales (WAIS-III/WISC-III), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2/MMPI-A), Millon Multiaxial Clinical Inventory-III, California Psychological Inventory, Rorschach, Thematic Apperception Test, and frequently used instruments for neuropsychological screening (e.g., Bender Gestalt and Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test). Each test is reviewed according to its history and development, psychometrics, administration, and interpretation of results. In addition, this revised and expanded Fourth Edition includes: * Completely updated research on all assessment techniques * A chapter on the Wechsler Memory Scales (WMS-III) * A new chapter on brief instruments for treatment planning, patient monitoring, and outcome assessment (Beck Depression Inventory-II, State Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Symptom Checklist-90-R) Organized according to the sequence psychologists follow when conducting an assessment, the Handbook of Psychological Assessment, Fourth Edition is a practical, valuable reference for clinical psychologists, therapists, school psychologists, and counselors.

Reliable February 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first time I had ordered books from Amazon. I did them before, but my boyfriend helped me with it. This time i did all by myself. Its easy...its reliable. I received my book just at the time I wanted. My suggestion to anyone who is in a dilema whether to buy from a book store or at Amazon. Please buy them at Amazon, they are cheaper, they deliver it to you. What more would any student want. Thank you Amazon.
Psychology Book January 18, 2008 There was a delay in the shipping of the book due to availability. I received notification of the delay by email. The book was in excellent condition when it arrived. Fortunatley, I still received the book in time for my class.

The Handbook of Psychological Assessment is an excellent training tool. Extensive research is provided on the development of each assessment. In addition, the author provides a through discription for administration and interpretations.
Not what I was looking for September 1, 2005 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
I am a Ph.D candidate, and I was looking for some help in one my Psychological Assessment classes. I did not find any help in this book. This book is written for the layperson, and may be a source of basic information on current psychological tests. However, for the professional looking for additional information it is disappointing.
the gold standard August 4, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This text has quickly become the gold standard for both students and practitioners of psychological assessment. It is unique in that it is extremely practical and applicable to day to day practice, yet it is thoroughly grounded in research--which is succinctly cited throughout the text. And, somehow, each volume gets better. This is not a book that will collect dust on a shelf--clinicians will find sage guidance in this text.
