Red Sox Fan July 19, 2008 This is a great book. Most of the things in the book a Die Hard Fan would probably know but it is great reading, well written and a perfect way to wile away a summer afternoon.
Good Red Sox view but missing some key points July 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nick Carfardo has written a book that most Red Sox fans will find not just highly readable but very enjoyable. It does have the weakness of skewing towards to last 25 years or so depending on when Carfardo started to cover the Sox. In doing this he tends to downplay some of the earlier history of the team in favor of events that took place more recently. Old time Hall of Fame Red Sox players barely draw a mention, most of all is how little is mentioned of Cy Young who still holds most team records in pitching.
One of the other great mysteries is how he avoids some of the greater personalities on the team for lesser ones. Johnny Damon is treated as a god like character in the book yet Bill Lee and Luis Tiant, two far better players and wonderful characters barely draw a mention. All in all a good book just comes up short in some areas.
