Editorial Reviews: Book Description Two educators -- one of them a parent of two deaf children -- offer positive advice and encouragement on helping children adapt to deafness. Recommended in these pages is the bimodal communication approach, which entails having the child, parents, and other non-deaf family members combine sign language and speech as the first step to normal communication. The book also offers much good general advice on parenting. The authors stress that deaf and hearing children are more alike than they are different.

Customer Reviews: Great advice from a personal perspective July 4, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful We bought this book when our son was diagnosed with a congenital hearing loss. This book is written from a personal perspective, the author has two hearing impaired children. We felt that the book offered a balanced and non-judgemental review of many issues facing the parents of a deaf child. The book offers helpful illustrations and very practical advice and reassurances.
