Product Description Jump-start language and learning skills with this simple and elegant guide to using sign language to communicate with your preverbal baby.
Imagine averting a tantrum because your baby was able to communicate her desire for a favorite toy without tears, or simply sharing in your baby's wonderment at the sight of a bird on a tree-before he has even uttered his first word! Generally, children do not develop the motor skills necessary to speak until they are two, and yet they are able to communicate using sign language as early as six months. Written by an experienced signer and a mother of three, this illustrated step-by-step guide will allow readers to join the ranks of parents around the world who experience the rich rewards of communicating with their preverbal babies by using sign language.
Studies have shown that babies who are taught to use signs to express themselves before they can actually speak are more contented because they can communicate their basic needs (and ideas!) and also are more skilled at speaking once they begin to acquire language. Full of practical tips, real anecdotes, and straightforward diagrams of more than sixty basic American Sign Language signs, Baby Talk is the essential baby-signing handbook for parents, relatives, and caregivers-and their babies, who are just a little too young to express themselves verbally.

Help for parents September 19, 2008 This book has great illustratrions and includes both common & obscure words/signs. It is a very user-friendly & encouraging resource even for new parents!
excellent July 9, 2008 bought for my new grand daughter and my daughter is using it already and baby is only 4 months old.
Great info..not enough signs... March 10, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The information is great in this book. I feel that it is worth the money I spent on it. I do wish however that it had more signs. I did a lot of research to find a good book with more signs and I found a book titled Teach Your Tot to Sign. The author is Stacy Thompson. It is a dictionary more than an instructional book. It has well over 500 signs in it just for young children. I think that you should buy this book for the how-to's and the other for further signing. Good job.
not enough signs February 8, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I liked the introduction of the book, but I found that it really lacked in the number of signs that it gave (didn't even have a sign for brother). After reading it, I now need to get a different signing book to be able to continue signing with my baby.
Great way to start signing with your baby October 26, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this book along with the Baby Einstein DVD, and it was a great start to learn how to sign. My little girl picked up on signing so quickly, and she seems to say the words she knows the signs to much faster. It is also a great way to give little ones a way to communicate before they have a large vocabulary. My parents and in-laws were so excited that I bring this book with me so they can learn the signs our daughter uses.
