Product Description
This book is a primary review tool to prepare students for both the internal medicine clerkship and the end-rotation NBME shelf examination. This logical alternative to several limited-focus books blends a bullet-outline format students prefer in a review book with comprehensive paragraphs, as needed, for optimal preparation. Illustrations, charts, tables, graphs, mnemonics, and "Quick Hits" pearls for the clerkship speed and supplement learning. Ample content without superfluous detail enables students to readily evaluate and expand their knowledge of cardiology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, hematology, neurology, endocrinology, rheumatology, nephrology, genitourinary disorders, fluids and electrolytes, dermatology, and musculoskeletal problems. A new section in this Second Edition presents 100 USMLE-style clinical vignette-based questions with answers. A color insert contains over thirty full-color images. A companion Website will offer the fully searchable text and color photographs.

Excellent Resource July 6, 2008 Excellent book. Well written and organized. I used it during my 3rd year rotations with great success. Provides an easier read then the straight bullet format of some other review books.I have noticed the occasional type-o, but I would strongly recommend this book for 3rd/4th years.
I love this book March 8, 2008 This book is great for 3rd and 4th year rotations! Covers the important info about the most important diseases, without getting bogged down with too much extraneous info. There is also a great section that deals with how to work up common complaints such as chest pain or change in mental status, that is REALLY helpful on rotations. Also a great section on how to interpret EKG, xray and some physical exam pearls. I haven't taken step 2 yet so I can't say how helpful it is for that, but it definitely helps to fill in some knowledge gaps and is a great quick and informative reference. I would recommend it to any 3rd year student!
The best there is February 23, 2008 I used this for both family med and internal med clerkships. It is amazing. Everything you need is in this book. Read it, know it, and you'll ace the shelf exams.
This book is wonderful! February 12, 2008 I used this book during my MS3 internal medicine rotation. For a review book, it is quite thorough! Don't be fooled by its fairly slender size --- the pages are so information-dense that you'll likely need several weeks to get through the whole book. The chapters are divided into short sub-chapters, which makes the book easier to tackle when you have a few spare minutes on the wards. Most of the diagrams and flowcharts are very helpful --- in fact, I sometimes referred to them when my team wanted me to give presentations on specific topics. Combine this book with a good question source (like MKSAP 3) and you should be well-prepared for the internal medicine shelf. :)
Amazon sent out a damaged item January 4, 2008 0 out of 12 found this review helpful
I paid overnight shipping and was sent a book that was in extremely poor condition. It was clear the book was damaged before being shipped and not damaged in transit. This was very annoying because I paid overnight shipping and really needed the book. Originally they sent me a replacement and said I didn't need to send back the damaged book. It took multiple e-mails to get the overnight shipping credited. Recently I received an e-mail that said I hadn't returned the original book and was going to be charged for it. The costumer service has been horrible, it is almost like they don't even read my e-mails before replying to them. I have never had problems with amazon in the past and have bought lots of items here, but this transaction will make me reconsider them in the future. Step-up to medicine is a great book. I would recommend it to any 3rd year medical student on IM. It covers the entire subject matter better than any other sources. I used step up, case files, and did lots of questions, and preformed pretty well on the shelf. I would highly recommend this book, but would probably buy it through Barnes and Noble or your med schools book store. It is just not worth the hassle I dealt with with amazon to save a couple bucks.
