5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book   June 13, 2008
Excellent book--the best of its' kind. Extremely informative and helpful. Never read a book so helpful in "putting the pieces together."

1 out of 5 stars MORE BAD SCIENCE   May 2, 2008

This book is full of pseudoscience. I can't help wondering if "Sarah," mentioned at the opening of the book, really has emerged 'more serene than she thought possible' from her journey of discovery of the 'abuse that shaped her adult life.' Supposedly she was happy at the time she started to have flashbacks. So how did horrifying abuse shape her adult life of happiness?

On another note, people who believe they have recovered lost memories of abuse need to be honest with themselves. How much were these 'memories' influenced by what a therapist has suggested or by what you saw in a movie, TV show or news report? I haven't been able to find one case where a 'recovered' memory of abuse has had outside corroboration.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful   March 7, 2008
I too have a lot of hazy images, and idiosyncrasies that never made sense and this book helped me to let go of denial and get honest with myself, but in a gentle way. I would suggest this book to anyone who is on a journey of recovering from sexual abuse.

1 out of 5 stars Book based on a fallacie,   August 19, 2006
2 out of 31 found this review helpful

This book and others like are based on unproven myths and fallacies that were popular in the nineties. Just like this other lie called facilitation. The truth is that traumatic memories are remembered, not forgotten or repressed. If it happens it is extremely rare.

Trouble is, once you start believing something happened, it stays with you like a real memory.

Please, do not believe the assumption these books are based on.

Upon reading this book I was finally able to realize the flashbacks and images that have been haunting me for years.Every turn of the page was another window into my thoughts and emotions offering insight and relief. I was able to piece my feelings together like a puzzle and use that to change my life. This book helped me realize many of the problems I am having and offered me solutions of how to deal with them. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with issues from their past. I can guaruntee that if it helped me it can help many others!
