Awesome Book! September 20, 2008 If you are choosing a book on Selective Mutism for the first time, you probably don't know very many people who are familiar with this anxiety disorder. As a parent of an S.M. child I can relate to that. I am recommending a book (this book) for the first time because these books are costly and it's important to choose wisely. Upon receiving this book, I sat done and read it in one sitting. I then donated this book to our school teacher. She read it before the school year began. This book has been a wonderful asset to both of us. It explains everything you need to know about your child at school, it is easy to read and understand, and it gives provides detailed information on what to do. It also has a FAQ area in the back of the book. I highly recommend it!
Selective Mutism: Help for the teacher July 29, 2008 I found the book to be very helpful in understanding selective mutism and it offered good suggestions for the teacher. It was a little pricey for such a small book and at times it was repetitive. It did however, offer enough practical insight and suggestions that made it a good purchase.
Excellent read for parents November 21, 2007 This book was very helpful to not only myself and my SM daughter, but also to her teachers and guidance counselers. Really helps others understand SM and how to deal with it in a classroom setting.
share this with your child's teacher March 20, 2007 excellent and specific ideas for reducing classroom anxiety...short enough to share with your child's classroom teacher...
Some good tips, but overpriced January 2, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This particular booklet has some good tips and was the most useful of the 4 I purchased by this author. Still, for the price I would recommend investing in Maggie Johnson's The Selective Mutism Resource Manual instead. It is also pricey, but worth every penny.
I also highly recommend Helping Your Child With Selective Mutism: Steps to Overcome a Fear of Speaking which is very useful and reasonably priced.
