5 out of 5 stars Builds Confidence   September 6, 2008
I have a 10 y/o niece who's just learning toe that I bought this for. She loves it because the characters are so much like her and learning toe for the first time too. My niece loves to read and she's very shy and soft-spoken, but she's starting to make friends now in her ballet class. I think this book helped her with her confidence and made her feel "cool" to do ballet. My niece is becoming more outgoing and even had friends over after ballet class for the first time! It sounds like the main character, Bianca, is very self-assured and fabulous, and my niece loves to read about her. I'm really pleased this book was such a good influence on her, and now I'm back to order her the next book in the series.

5 out of 5 stars A Gorgeous Gift Set   August 9, 2008
Just received books one through five in the Ballet Friends series and I couldn't be more pleased. The books are gorgeous and they all have beautiful, glossy ballet pictures on the covers. They made a great gift presentation. My daughter just finished her first year of pointe, and she loves reading about the characters going through what she just went through. I recommend this book because my daughter enjoyed it so much, and after checking it over, it seems very sweet and all about ballet. I'm going to order a bunch of book ones for my daughter's "ballet friends" for Christmas, and I'm so relieved to have found a gift around ten dollars a friend!

5 out of 5 stars Keeping kids active with ballet   August 2, 2008
I do ballet and pilates workouts daily, and so do my kids. We love to workout together, and enjoy doing barre excercises. It was serendipitous to find this book for my girls, because now they have a book to read about kids their age staying fit and working out by doing classical ballet, stretching, and barre work. The book shows that dance is a healthy lifestyle, it burns calories, helps you stay fit, and is very athletic. One character's mother is very exercise and health-conscious, and it's not so far off that she pushes her daughter to do ballet to lose weight and be fit - because it works and you can do it right at home! Another added benefit for my family is my daughters have asthma, and ballet is a low impact activity for them.

I also recommend Element: Ballet Conditioning DVD with Elise Gulan.

5 out of 5 stars Great for tweens   July 18, 2008
I bought this for my 10 yr old because she takes ballet, jazz, and tap. She's currently obsessed with HSM and Hannah Montana. I wasn't sure if I could interest her in reading a book, but when I saw it was a dance book and had my daughter's favorite word "fabulous" in the title, I thought it might work. It turned out to be a huge hit with her, and now she's even turning her friends into Ballet Friends readers too. After looking through it myself, I noticed the author uses a lot of cool words like OMG, and talks about Sephora, shopping, and even American Idol. But it's very funny and also very sweet with the five characters becoming BFFs and being there for each other through thick and thin. And speaking of thin, I also love how this book shows that girls of all body types can do ballet. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect present for my sister who loves to dance   July 18, 2008

I gave this book to my little sister for her eleventh birthday. She takes ballet so I thought it sounded like a fun book for her. She has a lot of Angelina Ballerina books from when she was younger, but she stopped reading them a while ago. She's in that in between age and needed something to fill the gap that's more middle school. This was a very good choice because my sister loves it and it's all she's talking about. She carries it around with her and reads it at the beach, and she's constantly giggling over it. I'm really glad I got it for her, and recommend it for any girl around eleven who takes ballet.
