Product Description Imagine if your best friend gave you vital information that could protect you and your family, and save you money, and help the planet. Imagine if you were given clear, simple choices, small changes that could have a big impact on your life. And you could still wear leather shoes and deodorant. You'd listen, right? Well, think of Today show contributor Sloan Barnett as that friend. A mother of three, a dedicated consumer advocate, Sloan gives us a fast, simple, down-toearth primer on the ways our homes are making us sick, and what we can all do to transform them into the safe sanctuaries we want and need them to be. Sloan exposes the toxic truth behind the household products we use every day -- from laundry detergent to toothpaste to lipstick. She explains how these and other seemingly benign stuff can harm us and our children. She offers an array of alternatives, and inspires us to see that we're never helpless: Every day, we have the power to make better, smarter, safer choices. Packed with common sense and sass, product picks and practical tips, Green Goes With Everything is for everyone who wants to live a healthier life.

It ain't easy being green. But it sure is important! November 21, 2008 With apologies to Kermit the Frog, it ain't easy being green. Although I believe I'm "doing my part," i've always thought that these actions were purely altruistic. I had a lot to learn.
Sloan provides a simple guide explaining: *What does it mean to be green *Why it is important to be green *How one could become more green
Her prose is jampacked with a depth of research fitting a phd thesis. Yet, her writing is approachable because she is able to distill into digestible bits. She intertwines rich humor ("safe" dirt vs "scary" dirt) without compromising her credibility. And even though we all should read this book, perhaps the most important audience is parents with newborns. Impossible to get more than a few moments to yourself, right? Forunately, the capstone thoughts are bolded (in green of course) and repeated in callouts just in case you missed something.
I hear other reviewers knocking her self-disclosed bias for Shaklee products. Maybe her home-cooking simply tastes better. Stated differently, don't trust her because she happens to be married to the CEO of Shaklee; trust her because she has conducted as much if not more research on these subjects (check out the 45 pages of research and notes in the appendix). I much prefer having her disclose this potential conflict of interest and still make the recommendation of what she believes to be the best products in category, than to make an artificial recommendation of an inferior product. Who really loses here?
Thank you Sloan for kissing this frog and turning him into a prince.

Critical Information For Every Family October 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
From one mom to another, thank you Sloan! Green Goes With Everything is clear, concise, well researched, and a must read for people concerned about the health of the planet and the health of everyone in the family. From household cleaners to cosmetics, Sloan covers the toxins that so many of us don't realize are in the products we use every day. This book is a wake up call to pay close attention to everything we bring into our homes and to make changes one step at a time. My husband has serious chemical sensitivities and so we've had to be very careful about perfumes, cleaning products, carpets, air fresheners, personal-care products, etc. But even with my heightened awareness, I learned many new things from Sloan that I will immediately implement with my family. I know I will reference her book over and over again for the websites, green companies, and product names she recommends.
Sloan keeps the reader engaged in such a way that makes GREEN education full of purpose! October 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I confess :)! Books I read need to keep my interest. Sloan has such a fabulous way of writing that adds a bounce of humor throughout the book! She is speaking of serious issues, yet adds a unique flare of personality through her book that makes serious issues not only stick, but challenges the reader to consider healthy alternatives. I love the book and am using it as a resource for my family. Sloan makes it fun and easy to do my part in creating a healthier life and cleaner planet for my precious children and all those in it. This book makes a wonderful gift.

Excellent information October 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought this was an outstanding book. It gives good information on how to go green, giving product references as well. How often do we read books but are left on our own to figure out which products are okay? Having used Shaklee cleaners off and on for 30 years, I understand why she recommends them so highly. I also notice that she doesn't promote every Shaklee product available. Some categories have Shaklee alternatives, but that product line isn't even mentioned, which tells me Sloan Barnett is presenting an objective view. I think this is a book that should be read and shared by all. It may be basic for some, but for many it will be a great start to a new green life.
