4 out of 5 stars Learning Tool   September 29, 2008
Ordered this book at the request of the teacher of the ASL class at our Church - It is very helpful in teaching the words and giving you exercises
at the end of each chapter. To fully understand and learn correctly this book along with a good instructor you can learn the art of signing.

4 out of 5 stars A Basic Course in ASL   September 23, 2008
This text is very helpful for learning the basics of ASL. Although it could be confusing for someone who has never previously been exposed to ASL. The additional study guide was not as helpful or even necessary for my ASL course.

3 out of 5 stars Ok Book but I have purchased better ones   August 26, 2008
The only reason I purchased this book was it was required for the course ASL I I was taking at a local college. The instruction is not in depth at all and does not explain anything at all. All the signs were picture only and no text explaining how to do it. Unless your instructor requires this book, I would not recommend purchasing it.

5 out of 5 stars BEST BEGINNING ASL BOOK EVER!   July 24, 2008
A Basic Course. . .also called the ABC book, is by far the best book for beginners! It is American Sign Language. . not English. It's pictures of signs are some of the best out there & it teaches you ASL structure from the very beginning. . so you don't pick up bad habits of using ASL signs in English word structure! Don't buy ASL dictionaries. . .until you have finished this book & understand more about the uniqueness of ASL and it community of users!

4 out of 5 stars Basic Course   March 1, 2008
An excellent course in sign language. Signs are clear and easy to learn. Explanations are short and concise. Lessons are in a practical and logical order. It makes learning sign language easy and fun.
