Treasured Keepsake September 6, 2008 I purchased this book as gifts for some first time Grandmothers that I know. It's a wonderful book that prompts the writer to share stories of themselves, their parents, child and grandchild. I have something similiar from my Grandma. She gave it to me when I was in my 20's and it is a treasure for me. Great for people that have a family history they would like to share so that it doesn't get lost with time. Easy to fill out because it is not something that needs to be completed immediately, you can write stories as they come to you or as a new family memory happens. Every page has a "prompt" for the family history/information or story. I gave it 4 stars because I was under the impression when I ordered it that there would be room for family recipes and I didn't see an area for that when I looked through it. I will order it again.
Great idea May 12, 2008 This book is such a great way to learn about your grandparents. It has an easy to use formats and asks them so many questions that I think most people would think to ask until it was too late. It is a must for anyone having a child to get for the grandparents.
A must.... March 28, 2008 What a great discussion piece! Our children will treasure the reflections of their grandmother forever!!! We added pictures of them thoughout the years to the book.
beautifully written!! December 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered six of these books for my daughter's four grandparents and two surviving great-grandparents. After looking through them, I am sad that she will not have books of her other great-grandparents as well. The questions are very comprehensive and there's lots of room to write answers. This book is exactly what I was looking for. There's so many interesting questions that I would have never thought to ask. In the very beginning, there's a dedication page where the grandparent answers questions about meeting the grandchild for the first time and why they are completing the journal for them. It sets the tone for the whole book and it's a lovely way of bridging three generations of written family history. Highly recommended!!
Disappointed by reaction... October 26, 2007 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought these books for my mother, mother-in-law, and father to fill out for my daughter. I knew that they would be quite a project to fill out, but I didn't expect the reactions I got from my mother and mother-in-law about them. Seems as if they were a little overwhelmed at the prospect of revealing their lives in such a way (in writing)-- They are both in their early 60's and were taking the questions so literally it was frustrating for me to even talk about filling out the books with them! Maybe they both have some sort of weird inability to sugar-coat anything, I don't know! My mom asked, "what do you want me to do, lie?" Like the question- Where did you go for family trips? My mother said "we didn't have any money, we didn't go anywhere." and proceeded to tell me that she had a very boring life, she started her family at 17, didn't have much money untill they were older, and had nothing to write about.... which left me feeling depressed, and apologetic for even giving her the book!
I had such high hopes for these books, I think they are great gifts for the right people. I wish my relatives were a little more open to this sort of thing, I would've loved to have something like this filled out by my own grandmother, who died when I was 3. If you think the recipient will oblige, then I would definately recommend it.... but just a warning from someone who found out the hard way, not everyone is open to this kind of thing!
