Product Description

Today, there is a great deal of emphasis on the mystical and intangible nature of relationships but very little emphasis on the real, practical steps involved in building an enduring love. In contrast, authors Ben Young and Sam Adams place great importance on the value of spiritual compatibility in Devotions for Dating Couples.

Designed especially for highly committed or engaged couples, it helps readers:

  • Understand and avoid the most common barriers to spiritual growth
  • Have an increased desire for fellowship with God
  • Share and explore spiritual issues together
  • Pursue godliness, personal relational health, and wholeness
  • Each of the nine sections includes Scripture quotations, suggested meditation passages, and discussion questions, as well as anecdotes from real people including the authors. Intended as an eight-week study, weekday devotions are to be completed by both individuals, and each weekend study is to be completed together as a couple.

5 out of 5 stars Great starter devotional for dating or engaged couples   November 24, 2008
My now husband & I read this last fall before getting engaged. It was the first book we went through together as a couple, and it provided a great base for us to get to know each other from. Every chapter gives a few verses/passages to study & discuss. The method that worked great for us, was to study a chapter throughout the week on our own (making notes everywhere), and then getting together to discuss them on Sunday mornings after having breakfast together before heading off to church (either at Panera or my parents' kitchen).

4 out of 5 stars Good help on staying focused   November 6, 2008
I think this is a good book to use to generate discussion in a relationship on spiritual matters. My girlfriend and I are using it while I am deployed to Iraq and it has allowed us to continue to grow together and challenge each other more than I ever thought we'd be able to do.
The topics are pretty simple and basic. If you're looking for something really theological, this probably won't be your best choice, but I would recommend it for couples who are Christian and want to grow together toward Christ.

4 out of 5 stars great, but not quite what i expected   October 31, 2008
my boyfriend and i are wrapping up our last week of this book. we loved the book because it reminded us of things that we need to be thinking about in our own Christian lives, but also allowed us to grow spiritually together. we liked it because we could each do our own part during the weeks, so it was easy and we could fit it in when we each had time and on the weekends we always planned in time for us to do our devo together. i think the only thing we weren't as impressed with was that there was really only 2 or 3 of the devos that really focused on us as a couple and i guess we were maybe hoping for sometime more couple-focused instead of just sharing our own individual thoughts on that topic.
overall, an excellent book to grow both individually and as a couple!

3 out of 5 stars Perhaps Dating, but not Engaged   April 13, 2008
While trying to develop a pattern of 'doing the devotions' and spiritual intimacy, my fiance and I decided to give this book a shot. It was readily available and seemed to cover all of the bases.
I for one was slightly disappointed. Growing up in the church and having a personal relationship with God since a young age, I felt that the daily lessons were lacking in depth. Maybe great for a younger couple who are just starting out on their spiritual journeys, but I found myself saying 'okay, that was it?' and wanting more.
In the book's defense, I must say that as an engaged couple we may not be the target audience. This book did spark some good discussion and definitely helped to instill the need of doing a devotinal every single day. We were both just disappointed with the lack of true depth for a more mature relationship.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent For Starting Out On Your Spiritual Journey   February 25, 2008
My girlfriend and I had been dating about 4 months when we decided to start having devotions together. We knew that we wanted to start a spiritual journey together as a couple and this book really helped us get started. Although some of the content is pretty basic and common sense, especially if you have been a Christian for a while, the book still provides great opportunities for sharing and discussing biblical material regarding Love, Community, Simplicity, Prayer, Forgiveness, and Purity. I think it is an excellent tool to begin a spiritual walk with your partner. After going through this devotional book, we feel so comfortable opening up to talk and pray about God's plan for our future, and that's the first step to a blessed and fulfilling life together!
