Product Description Interpreting for the deaf is an art as well as a skill. Signing the scriptures for the liturgy is a particular challenge, requiring both a sense of the poetic and an understanding of the meaning of a sacred text to a believing community. 'Signing the Scriptures: A Starting Point for Interpreting the Sunday Readings for the Deaf' offers the interpreter a place to begin to develop his or her own way of interpreting the readings for the Mass. It contains glosses for the readings for the Sundays and most major feast days from the 'Roman Catholic Lectionary for Mass.' Published by Liturgy Training Publications.

Text ONLY May 2, 2008 If you are looking for a reference book that includes signs, this is not the one. This book contains text only and because of that I was disappointed. The content is typed in 12 or 14 font so you really don't have must information even for a textual reference. The book is arranged in the order of the Catholic liturgical year with readings for special feast days and Mass for the Roman Catholic Church, which you don't find out until you purchase. It seems to be a good resource for conceptual ideas for difficult scriptures. But some signs, even intermittently would be most helpful. For instance: "Snake, he butter-up-hit" for genesis 3:9-15; or "water messed-up". There are also a lot of references for classifiers and if you don't know... you don't know. If you are experienced enough to follow this book from text without signs then no doubt you don't need this book. If you are inexperienced in your signs and classifiers you don't need this book. If you just want to know how to re-word a few scriptures then go for it.
A Little Disappointed October 7, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Just a little disappointed. I needed a book that would show the signs. This gives the order of the words to sign.
