Product Description
A complete and thorough guide to the diagnosis and treatment ofmental disorders-covering the most current advances in the field

Understanding the origins of psychological distress and how to ameliorate its symptoms has long been a source of both fascination and challenge to the clinical therapist. For every clinician, the task of grasping and integrating diverse sources of information, such as research methodologies, assessment measures, diagnostic systems, and even information from fellow clinicians, into clinical pratice can be daunting.

Designed to serve as a trusted desktop reference for all mental health professionals that addresses issues of lifespan and cultural diversity, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders Across the Lifespan expertly covers etiology, clinical presentation, intake and interviewing, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of DSM-IV-TR disorders that occur in people of all ages. The most current advances in the field are discussed, drawn from clinical and research literature, and practical strategies and tips are provided for dealing with a wide range of clients. Included are chapters addressing essential clinical skills that lay the foundation for evaluation and treatment, as well as chapters addressing specific clinical disorders.

This reference thoroughly discusses the many essentials necessary to diagnose and treat various clinical disorders, including:
*

Disorders of childhood
*

Substance-related disorders
*

Personality disorders
*

Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders
*

Mood disorders
*

Anxiety disorders

Providing hands-on examples that make the material come to life, chapters covering specific clinical disorders end with an "Advanced Topic" that presents information on a specialized issue related to assessment, diagnosis, or treatment. Valuable as a clinical diagnostic training manual for beginning mental health clinicians and as a reference guide for seasoned therapists, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders Across the Lifespan is an indispensable resource for all mental health professionals.

"Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders Across the Lifespan" is an excellent text book and deserves a place on the bookshelf of practitioners as well as students. It is very comprehensive, completely up to date, written clearly, and well organized. As a former college professor in a counseling graduate school program, as an author, and as a practicing marriage and family therapist, I heartily recomend this book.
