Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

Henslin's best-selling brief paperback text shares the excitement of sociology–its acclaimed “down-to-earth” approach and personal writing style highlight the sociology of everyday life and its relevance to students' lives. This text is a brief version of the highly regarded hardcover introductory text, Sociology: A Down-to-Earth Approach, 7/e. The essential 15 chapters cover all of the topics in the 22-chapter text, and retain the dual emphases on micro and macro (individual and structural) sociology. James Henslin has a unique ability to engage students without talking down to them or sacrificing content. With wit, personal reflection, and illuminating examples, he shares with readers a passion for sociology unmatched by any other introductory text.

4 out of 5 stars My book...   October 3, 2008

I ended up ordering the wrong book edition, and that was probably my fault... I don't think I made sure it was the 7th edition. But the book came in okay condition.
p.s.
My professor said I can still use the 6th edition. =)

I never got it, but I was still billed $75.00. Where is my book?!

2 out of 5 stars Misleading title header   September 18, 2008
The heading is very tricky. It makes you think that it comes with an access code for the mysoclab series. Had I known, I wouldn't have purchased this because it comes out more expensive than the one that's sold at our school. I was gonna return it but I didn't want to go through all the trouble of doing so, so I had to buy the access code online which is $50! I ended up spending more than $120 instead of getting it from the school for $80 WITH the access code included in it! Very disappointing..

4 out of 5 stars Used Textbook   September 8, 2008

This textbook has interesting opening vignettes which makes the entire chapter enticing. It's easily understood as the authors reference the meaning of words in the text. The language is advanced enough for senior sociology students to read it without feeling spoon fed.

I would like everyone to know that for a class that calls for the latest edition, which is usually hundreds of dollars, they can easily get an A with an older edition. I have proved it with this book. Even though the teacher said I would have a hard time I found everything where it was supposed to be maybe a page or two off but it was all there. This is a great book even if you are not taking a sociology class.
