4 out of 5 stars Valuable Insight To Help Get Ahead In Work And Life   June 24, 2008

For years, Mark Jeffries has impressed audiences with his witty and insightful advice on the "soft skills" or strategic communication techniques needed to get an edge in business and in life. I was delighted to see these tips brought to life in his new book!

Jeffries attacks the challenge of sub-par interpersonal behaviour with a blunt assertion - get the soft skills right, or struggle in business and life. It is common sense. It is something we all know we need to know. And yet it is something that each of us has struggled with in one area or another at some point in our lives - be it a lousy handshake, poor fashion sense, slumped posture, the list goes on.

Jeffries' writing is conversational and easy to follow. His advice: practical and to the point. This is a first-rate handbook for the rising star in business or any other aspect of life. I highly recommend you pick up a copy for yourself.

4 out of 5 stars An extraordinary primer for anyone who wants to get ahead in business ... or life.   May 21, 2008

I've had the chance to see Mr. Jeffries speak on a few occasions. He consistently delivers those 1-second "soft-selling" tips that have meant the difference in my own business life. When I heard he'd written a book, I was excited to see how he and -- and I could -- take things to the next level.

"What's up with your handshake" is a powerful strategic tool all around. It's given me dozens of new ideas on how to improve my overall communication and networking skills. It's a fun read (the stories keep it from being a dry collection of lists) and well worth my time and money. I know I'll never shake hands, give a business card or make a phone call the same way again.
