5 out of 5 stars Surviving Prostate Cancer   July 19, 2008
Larry Axmaker's unusual book about prostate cancer should be read by everyone who wants information but doesn't want to be bored by it. The medical information is there but so is the subtle humor, the cartoons and Axmaker's battle to survive the doctors, the disease and his own attitude. Axmaker uses wit, understatement and humor which provide the reader with a personal look at how a "macho guy" fights to stay alive. Every cancer clinic should have copies of this book available for patients.

5 out of 5 stars A completely biased recommendation   July 4, 2008
This book was written by my father, who is fighting prostrate cancer. His father before him had prostate cancer (he died a ripe old age of other age-related complications) and it's probable that his sons (ie: me and my brothers) will also face it. So I can't be objective on so many levels. But I read the book before it was published and I will keep a copy for reference because it clearly and cleanly spells out what men face when diagnosed with cancer, what options they have, and what lifestyle changes can cut their risk factor. We're talking cancer here, the big bad C, so there are no guarantees and the book doesn't there are. But understanding what you can about the disease and the options is the best first step and this book gets right to point, cutting through the medical terminology and cutting out the double-speak.

5 out of 5 stars Real men need this book.   July 1, 2008

Because we women and other life partners play such a pivotal role in getting the men in our lives the health care they need (and resist), this book is not only for a newly diagnosed man with prostate cancer, but it is extremely helpful for his partner. Nothing bets sound information like this so you're better prepared to ask all the right questions of your health care team. Dr. Axmaker has done your homework. All you need is the book.
