Product Description Birth - 18 months. Author and researcher Joseph Garcia offers a straightforward and light-hearted approach to teaching infants how to communicate using simple American Sign Language (ASL) signs. This powerful package which includes a training video, book and quick reference guide, can help you understand and meet the needs of infants and toddlers long before they can speak. Recommended by Dr. Burton White, a leading authority on early childhood development.
Amazon.com Sign with Your Baby Complete Learning Kit will enable you to communicate at new levels with your baby long before she can speak. This comprehensive package of book, video, and reference guide shows how simple gestures can communicate ideas like "I'm hungry" or "help me." Caregivers grasp baby's needs immediately rather than learn through trial and error. Dr. Joseph Garcia has designed the system so it's not necessary to learn an entire new language, although it also provides a terrific start in American Sign Language for a hearing-impaired child. A fascinating introduction delves into the development of language in children and uses informative line drawings to demonstrate over 150 hand signs for all kinds of actions and nouns. The accompanying video provides practical tips for getting started, some insight into the hows and whys of this method from Dr. Burton White (director of the Center for Parent Education), and inspiring sights of young babies signing effectively with their caregivers. The laminated quick-reference guide lists some of the most common words in any parent's day: cookie, no, and up are but a few. Garcia's clear, concise methods make learning a breeze, and caregivers gain outstanding new abilities to give the best possible care for the babies entrusted to them. --Jill Lightner

So easy to use! April 1, 2008 I use this product when I teach classes. Parents love recording dates of knowledge of a word by their baby for childcare & relative information.
Don't wait to communicate! April 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What an amazing product!! For parents who are new to signing with your baby, the video is excellent in that it gives you the opportunity to see little ones signing. I often feel that 'seeing is believing', so it's very motivational to watch other babies signing. Several educators in the video also give their support and validate the research behind Signing with your Baby (R). It's also a great motivation to hear success stories from some parents of signing babies. The book is helpful in teaching you when and how to start incorporating signs with your little one. I love the ideas that Dr. Garcia gives for teaching signs along with games and everyday activities. There's also a dictionary at the back of the book to help learn signs, along with the same dictionary shown to you by Dr. Garcia at the end of the video. I would also highly recommend Sign2Me's flash card sets for you and your baby to supplement the dictionaries in the book and video. The dictionary in the book is helpful for parents, but your little ones will benefit more from the flash cards because of the illustrations on the front of the card (and the parent sees the sign itself on the back). I always use the Sign with your Baby(R) video in the beginning of the baby sign language classes I teach in Boiling Springs, SC. It really gets the parents excited about learning signs with their little ones. Signing with your little one is one of the best decisions you will ever make as a parent. Being able to communicate with your child often months before they can speak is phenomenal. I can't tell you how exciting it is to see your child communicate with you! Our daughter made her first sign at 5 months old. She is now 14 months old, with 10 words and over 40 signs. Imagine all that we would have missed out on for so many months before she started talking! Once when she was 9 months old, after turning off the radio, she signed 'more music'. How amazing it is to know at such a young age what your child wants and needs! This is a fantastic program to get you started on your signing journey! If you take the time to learn the signs and implement signing with your child's daily activities, this will be a purchase you will not regret! Happy signing!
Great Product April 1, 2008 I require this product for everyone who takes my Baby Sign Language Classes in Houston, Texas and love it. It has great stories, easy instruction and is a fantastic product. The book is easy reading...takes about an hour to read and has tons of vocabulary in the back. The video is about 30 minutes of instruction then has Dr. Garcia modeling all the signs. I love how you can easily find the information you want on the DVD and book. The Quick Reference Guide is great for baby sitters, grandma, and just to keep track of what my children know. I really do recommend this to everyone!
This is a wonderful book and video! April 1, 2008 I am a sign language interpreter and I teach baby sign and also tutor families who have children who need sign to communicate more easily. I did lots of research before I decided what program to use and picked SIGN with your BABY. The signs used in the book are all ASL signs which is very important! Dr. Garcia has a great way of showing and explaining how sign language helps infants and toddlers with their language development.
Amazing results from easy to follow demonstration in video April 1, 2008 Some people may think it is odd I would benefit from this program being that I am already fluent in American Sign Language. With my first child I did not utilize any resources while teaching her to sign and while she picked up a large vocabulary we had some pitfalls along the way. Plus I did not even realize all the different scenarios in which to provide new signs for my daughter. This time around with my son I've seen a difference in teaching him useful signs earlier than I would have thought he could understand their meaning, such as "help" and "hot". The years of research and knowledge provided in this complete kit definately benefits parents just starting out with signing to their baby/toddler. Parents in my workshops and classes using this kit have also stated it has made a great impact on their lives. Sign4Baby .... everyone should do it!
