Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Long respected for its scientific authority, pedagogy, and clinical relevance to medical education, this comprehensive embryology text features outstanding illustrations and clear and concise writing. The brand-new Tenth Edition covers all aspects of embryology of interest to medical students and instructors and includes clinical correlates that provide information on birth defects and other clinical entities directly related to embryologic concepts. This extensively revised edition features new full-color photographs of clinical conditions and updated embryo images/photographs created using newer technologies. It also features new online USMLE-style review questions through Connection / The Point. A new introduction chapter on development includes molecular biology. This edition's larger page size improves readability. A bound-in CD-ROM, Simbryo, presents animations of embryologic system development.

1 out of 5 stars Embry-terrible!   August 27, 2008
I can't but help wonder why this book has not been consistently rated poorly. While hoplessly underexpanding on topics, it simultaneously presents the material in a slip-shod disorganized manner. I strongly recommend that one consider a different book, stat!

5 out of 5 stars Medical Student Approved   July 17, 2008
As a busy medical student, I am very protective of my time. Langman's Medical Embryology (LME) is indeed a long, and at times difficult read, but in my humble opinion it is well worth that time and effort, as it is the only way I found to understand the field to the extent I wanted to. Whether for a general anatomy class, or for specific organ systems (especially the cardiovascular block - VSD's, ASD's, etc.), embryology creeps up again and again. I've read some negative reviews on here about the length or complexity of LME, but the fact is embryology IS complex, many of the details ARE important, and worse yet, the material inherently *builds off of itself* - e.g. you cannot skip over the development of the pharyngeal arches, or cram and then forget the information, and then expect to understand the subsequent development of facial structures and pathologies/deformities. If you read through this entire book, you will understand at least as much as a medical student ought to know, and a bit more (but not too much more, IMHO).

Overall, the writing is clear, the diagrams and images are valuable, and the content is essential to medical students. I highly recommend Langman's Medical Embryology for pre-clinical medical students.

5 out of 5 stars Great for learning and reference!   June 16, 2008
I was given this book when I worked at a teratogen information service. As a pharmacist, we are given no formal embryology training. However, at the teratogen information service it was crucial to understand how teratogens exert their effects. However, some of the images are disturbing, so caution to the faint! I learned a lot from this book, and have purchased it for my reference. It also comes with a cd-rom which can further enhance learning.

The seller was very prompt in sending the book. I bought it and the next day she had already sent it, I received the book just in time to study for the test I was to take.

She also was very honest and correct about the books condition, it was in good shape with some highlighting which just saved me from having to do it!!!

2 out of 5 stars A good overview, not very high-yield   May 25, 2008

For everyone thinking of using this to study for the boards - don't. I bought this book when I started medical school (back when I thought I had to buy every book) and I attempted to use it to study for the boards. Needless to say it wasn't the best choice. There are other books available that can help you make more sense out of the subject.
