Product Description
Vicks V1200 Personal Steam Inhaler

Amazon.com
For cold, flu, bronchitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, and allergy sufferers, this personal steam inhaler restores sufficient moisture to the lungs and respiratory tract. The patented plastic hood is contoured to cradle the face comfortably and directs warm moist air right into the nose and throat to temporarily relieve nasal, sinus, and chest congestion. Water goes into the unit's easy-to-fill base where a patented heater gently boils it. The adjustable control lets you choose the amount of steam that rises up into the hood. A short 5- to 15-minute treatment is all that is required to make nasal and throat passages feel clearer. This small inhaler is compact for easy storage or travel to work or abroad and has dual voltage for use anywhere in the world. For enhanced relief from cold/flu symptoms, this inhaler is compatible with Kaz Aromatic Inhalant Pads, which release soothing menthol and eucalyptus vapors. This steam inhaler is covered by a one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

5 out of 5 stars My best friend   October 6, 2008
I had a stubborn sinus infection while I was pregnant. Since I couldn't take any decongestants, this steamer was my biggest source of relief. It became my best friend.

5 out of 5 stars Great for singers and people with allergies!   October 3, 2008
This is really handy for a singer to have. It's very portable, light, and compact. I really like it. It puts out plain steam to inhale and you can adjust the output. It heats up quickly and puts out steam long enough to sit there for over 10 min at least. I don't have any complaints. Inhaling steam is so good for you, if you have allergies or are battling phlegm or a cold...this will help you so much. I am a singer and use this steamer twice a day and it's helped me with my allergies.

5 out of 5 stars Good product for the price   September 1, 2008
This steamer has helped a lot to relieve my allergy's and post nasal drip. I use it once in the morning and once before bed when I'm symptomatic. I like the small size since it takes very little space in my bathroom. The only downside is it does not turn itself off if you forget. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars pretty good one   August 29, 2008
I got my Vicks Steam Inhaler a few days ago. I had been choosing between it and the Mabis one. However, the latter costs $20 more so I decided to go with this one considering almost identical review ratings. I would rate it with 4.5 starts, not with 5. There is still a little room for improvement. It is pretty compact and quick. It starts producing steam in about 4 minutes. Yes, you can regulate the amount of steam. But I found that hot air makes me breath faster and, as a result, there is not enough steam produced by the machine between my breaths. Fortunately, I came up with a nice and simple solution. The mask has a few holes in it to mix the steam with some fresh air. If I cover with my fingers some or all three holes I get enough steam with every inhalation. It's pretty convenient, at least, for me and allows to (manually) regulate the amount of steam.
Another thing important for me was a possibility to use oil. Neither Vicks or Mabis inhaler assume that you can directly add aroma oil to water. Both brands sale their own inhaler pads designed to work with their machines. But the choice of oils is very limited. By the way, the Vicks Inhaler comes with a disposable pad good for one time use. Some people reported that they had still added a few drops of oil. For some it worked fine, for the others it didn't work that well screwing in some way the water heating surface. What I did is I bought this refill kit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XPX1HG) and it's been working great for me. You can put a pad directly on the plastic thing with the holes the steam comes out. The only difference with the original pad is form but it works great. It does not mess with the water heating surface and you can refill those cotton pads with any oil you want. For the future, I'm going to buy cotton pads and oil separately. I prefer to use calendula and there is no pads or kits coming with calendula extract.

5 out of 5 stars works great and helps a lot   July 14, 2008
I went from a cough the resulted from a cold to an allergic cough that lasted over 6 weeks. I ordered the personal steam inhaler and after a few days of use, the cough started going away, and it is gone now. Also, as soon as I started using it, I noticed my tight chest cough loosening some. I'm glad I have this, because when those allergies kick in I have effective help at hand, in addition to a saline nasal inhaler.
