Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Each year, millions of people go to their doctors complaining of knee pain, often resulting in MRIs and knee surgeries. However, many of these surgeries are unnecessary and so does much more damage to the knees than good. Now Dr. Grelsamer, named one of the best doctors in New York by New York magazine for the last three years in a row, exposes the potential dangers of misread MRIs and explains why, in many cases, surgery is not necessary to alleviate knee pain and provides helpful advice on different procedures when surgery is unavoidable. With rehabilitation exercises and step-by-step guides, he provides comprehensive information on relieving pain due to virtually every knee condition, including arthritis, runner's knee, torn ligaments and cartilage, tendinitis and more.

2 out of 5 stars Helpful, but a little cynical   May 26, 2008

Small book that is easy to read, but somewhat out of date (as another reviewer noted, no info about some of the newer options like hip resurfacing). Read the excerpts here; e.g., first few pages are a little bit cynical, but guess that goes with the title.

4 out of 5 stars good book   February 24, 2008
very good advice , highly recommend, somewhat skeptical of medical field with good suggestions of how to avoid problems by asking the right questions(I'm in the medical field and agree with his views) john

Unfortunately, this book does not go into any detail that you can't easily find on the web. It's out of date; no coverage of the new hip resurfacing techniques.

It's always good to know how to avoid surgery if you can. I need knee replacements so this was especially interesting to me. Good information.
