Good book for every woman who has doubted her body May 30, 2008 Very interesting and full of informative facts. Could have been a little bit more extreme for me example the cellulite picture. I would've really liked to see more emphisis on that issue being someone who suffers from it. Everything else was very reasurring and good to know. I really liked the medical views also. Thanks for writing such a real and honest book!!
Really Real May 28, 2008 This is a great book for anyone- not just teens. Adults are self conscoius of their bodies too, and do not necessarily know everything there is to know! I would highly reccommend this to anyone.
A great resource for insecure mid teens May 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a mother of an early teen and an Adolescent Medicine Specialist, I have found this a great resource. I have reccommended it to mothers who have asked me how they can address their daughters' body insecurities or hygiene issues. I've brought the book out when patients have asked me embarassing questions about the appearance of their bodies. It celebrates normal and shows young women what normal is, rather than the idealized normal that the media or textbooks shows them.
Not just for teen girls, but ALL girls! May 23, 2008 This is the first time that I ever had a desire to write a review on Amazon, but I just loved this book so much that I wanted to encourage others to read it as well, in the hopes that they get as much out of it as I did! I heard about this book in some magazine I was reading, and it sounded interesting, and my library just happened to have it. I heard that it's supposed to be geared towards younger women, especially those starting to go through puberty and all that, but I'll tell you, I really learned a lot that I didn't know in my 40's! It speaks very frankly, and in common terminology, so it's not medically-confusing!
The book is all about the changes that a woman's body goes through, and what's normal, and what should be checked by a doctor, but what I really like is that it's not afraid to confront the embarrassing stuff that you wouldn't even ask your doctor or best friend! I'm going pick one up for my 5 year-old daughter and hand it to her as soon as she can read!
Let me tell you, I had some questions answered that were about things that turned out were perfectly normal, and I feel so much better about my body now! I wish that I had had something like this when I was growing up, but I'm lucky that I found it before my daughter starts asking me the hard questions!
Wow! May 23, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 12 year old daughter after reading a review. The concept is awesome! Except for a couple of pages this would have been 5 stars. The pages in question are found towards the back and picture female body parts. Since I have 2 boys, I figured this book would soon become the neighborhood hit with all the tweens! I kept the book because I love the idea of showing our young daughters what real women look like..I just think it got a little too graphic for me. I will still give this book to my daughter, but only after I've figured out how to keep out of my sons hands.
