5 out of 5 stars A logical analysis of very emotional situations   April 28, 2008
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

As someone who has had to decide between work and 'traditional' motherhood I really found this to be a well-written and thoughtful book. I could associate with many of the stories and it made me think about many of my own decisions in life. The book offers a rational and logical analysis of situations where emotions sometimes run wild.

5 out of 5 stars Very touching and informative   April 28, 2008

I'm usually not a big fan of these types of books but after a friend told me about it I bought it. Very glad I did because it was one of the better books I have read in the past few years. I could really relate to many of the situations described and found myself laughing and tearing up soon after. Lent it to my mom and she likes it also -- she's about halfway through and we've already discussed some of the situations in the book -- which has led to discussions about the book and our relationship. Strongly recommended

5 out of 5 stars A helpful book   April 28, 2008

My congrats to the authors for writing such a well-researched, clear, and concise book for the general population. As a first-time mom of a 3-month old girl, I think this book will be helpful in our future relationship as well as maintaining my own healthy relationship with my mother. Highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars I'm so grateful for my OWN mom   April 27, 2008
I saw the book in Newsweek and was curious to read it. I loved this book -- it made me feel very lucky to have the great & understanding mom I have. Lots of interesting stories about moms who don't like their daughter's husband, job, hair style, etc. I couldn't believe some of the things the daughters did, either! But, the book is very fair-minded and offers lots of helpful tips to both moms & daughters. I think my mom will get a kick out of this book, especially the quiz.

5 out of 5 stars So relevant to my life, it's spooky   April 27, 2008

I have conflicts with my mother exactly like the scenarios described in the book. I care so much about what my mother thinks about me and my decisions about work and family that her relatively innocent comments resonate for days. Making Up With Mom helped me realize that I'm not alone and gave good practical advice about how to diffuse hurt feelings. Highly recommended.
