5 out of 5 stars A great study guide   August 11, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This book has divided the important topics into 5 sections. The book gives general and specific things to study and the practice test is pretty good. The only bad thing about the practice test is that it only gives 4 answer choices per question, while the actual test has 5 answer choices. The time it takes to take the actual test will be longer than it takes to do the practice test.

4 out of 5 stars Good overview   July 14, 2007

I used this book to study for the School Psyc Praxis exam and passed with a 780 in June 2007. Thompson's brief review of various concepts are helpful and relevant to the exam. His practice test questions are also helpful and some were very similar to actual questions. The only warning I have is that the incorrect answer choices on the practice test are easier to eliminate in his book than on the exam. If you study with this book, the study tips guide on the NASP website, and read the summaries from BP IV, you should pass!

4 out of 5 stars Useful guide   May 13, 2007

I used this guide to help study for the School Psychologist Praxis. Although each question offered only 4 choices (instead of the 5 on this exam), the questions were useful and on target for preparing for this exam. The advice section likewise was useful, as it told me where to target my studying for what could potentially be a wide variety of subject matter. This is definately a useful guide if you're studying for the Praxis. I cannot comment if it is as useful for the liscensure exam, however.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Resource!   April 7, 2007

I used this book along with a few other materials (e.g., Sattler books, Best Practices) and received a 780 on the exam! Some of the questions on the practice exam were exactly the same as those on the real thing. This book was a great resource and I definitely recommend it as a tool to help you study!!!

4 out of 5 stars Making the things passable, one bullet at a time   March 21, 2007

Thompson delivers useful tidbits of knowledge and test-taking hits with this light-weight thriller. He covers all of the major domains within School Psychology and sagely advises you to first consider your areas of ignorance and progressively move to your areas of strength. I, for one, had to extensively review case law and ethics. Others will likely find a need to review general psychological principles. Thompson assumes that you are aware of your strengths and weaknesses and is very capable of pointing you in the right direction if you indeed are aware. If not, however, preparation time will increase substantially. That being said, however, Thompson suggests highly recommended other sources (Thomas and Grimes, 2004; Hale and Fiorello, 2004) that will likely lead you to NASP Exam success.
