2 out of 5 stars another case of the emperor's new clothes   October 6, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

We read this for my book club and I was excited to read it as I had heard it was very inspirational, if sad. I found it to be an easy read and finished it in a day. It was entertaining enough but there was absolutely nothing in it that hasn't been said a million times before in similar small, hard-cover books. I thought it was pretty trite - I lost my mother three months ago and expected to be bawling the whole time, but none of his "great insights" really affected me that much. Frankly, Dr. Pausch struck me as rather self-absorbed and I would think that if you wanted to leave something of yourself for your children you could probably find a way to accomplish that that wouldn't take up as much of your time as writing and promoting this book probably did.

There's a lot of hype about this book but count me among the people who are just not getting it. The hype, that is - I get the book. I just don't think it's telling me anything I didn't already know.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book!!!!!!!!   October 5, 2008
This is a fabulous, inspirational book!!! A must read for anyone who needs a shot of reality!! If you think you have it bad, and need a pick me up, this is it!!!

Should be a required read for all high school/college students!!! and anyone in the human race!!!

5 out of 5 stars Leaving with style   October 4, 2008
An excellent example of how to leave when you know the end is here. This lecture encourages people to leave the positive legacy rather than leave any expression of bitterness that your life is shorter than it could have been without disease.

Randy knew that his time was short when he prepared this lecture on the essence of life. He presents it with great presence and emotion.

A must read for those of any age.

I have both read the book The Last Lecture and seen the video of his presentation.

5 out of 5 stars this title is the best   October 3, 2008
Enjoyed the book very much. It should touch all that read it, and give a sense of what is important to each of us.

Remember all we have is family in the end and should try to be as close as we can.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommend   October 3, 2008
I just finished reading a book by Randy Pausch called "The Last Lecture." Dr. Pausch is a professor at Carnegie-Mellon University, and last year he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

A video of his last lecture is one of the most popular on YouTube. The book is based on this lecture and is filled with stories of his childhood, his dreams, and his family. Written in a very similar vein as another of my favorite books, "Tuesdays With Morrie," it is funny, inspirational, and deeply moving.

Randy Pausch offers advice to young and old for dealing with life's small and large problems and how to live one's life fully and realize dreams.

I highly recommend this book!
