Nextville Amazing Places to live the rest of your life May 18, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I enjoyed the book, it was an easy read. It gave me some things to think about and I also learned some things I did not know about before. The links at the back of the book were also helpful. I do wish however that the author had explored the RV lifestyle in a bit more detail.

This is an excellent reference which will help you to focus on what is important to you in determining where you should live in retirement. The questions in chapter 2 helped to show me what is important to me. The next step is to have my wife take the quiz to see if we are on the same page. This book is so much more helpful than articles on the 10 best cities etc. Although such articles are helpful, they don't take your personal preferences into consideration.
Sparked a conversation May 14, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book opened my mind to new possibilities for retirement--things I hadn't thought of before. I especially liked the chapter on "Living Green," and the description of the pros/cons of buying a second home or time-share. The best thing about this book for me was that it sparked a conversation with my husband about our (different) ideas for retirement. My objection to the book is the typeface: it should be printed in black ink, not gray, for the older audience that is their target; aging eyes need higher contrast, and my eyes felt strained reading it.
One Bone To Pick May 3, 2008 6 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have not purchased Barbara Corcoran's book and have only read an excerpt online after seeing her interview on The Today Show, so I can't really rate it. However, I do have one problem with her choices of "great places to retire". Almost every place she chooses as a great place to retire, you'll be snowed in and freezing your behind off for a good portion of the year! To me, that isn't so GREAT. And as you get older, do you really want to be shoveling snow, scraping the ice off your windshield (and eveverything ELSE) and driving on icy roads? I am Florida born and bred and continue to live here. Depending on where you go in this state, it has a LOT to offer, especially in the way of "artsy" enclaves, since she seems to be partial to those types of places. People can say whatever they like about Florida, but you cannot beat the gorgeous blue skies, CLEAN white, sandy beaches, and warm, balmy breezes. On second thought, Barbara's right----FORGET FLORIDA----that way there will be less traffic for US to deal with. ;)
Okay, but there is better May 1, 2008 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
My main problem with this book is that it is too simplistic - people can't be divided into one of eight categories when choosing a place to relocate. Best book is The New Retirement by Jan Cullinane and Cathy Fitzgerald. Not only reviews many places to relocate (and it's very specific), but it includes all other aspects of retirement as well -finances, health, working, travel, etc. And, it The New Retirement: Revised and Updated: The Ultimate Guide to the Rest of Your Liferecommends places in Florida, too - Florida is still an option!
